Marvvila, from ‘BBB 23’, changed the lyrics of the MPB classic that he re-recorded due to its sexist and abusive content

One of the singers in the cast of “BBB 23”, Marvvilla is one of the new names of pagode carioca. She projected herself in “The voice”, where she sang hit songs of different styles. In her career outside the show, she also chose to re-record classics in pagoda arrangements. Among them are songs like “If I didn’t love you so much”, written by Herbert Vianna and sung by Ivete Sangalo, and “When I went rain”, a song by Luis Kiari also recorded by Maria Gadú.

The pagodeira also recorded the song “Palpite”, by Vanessa Rangel, which was the soundtrack of the soap opera “Por amor” and earned the singer a Multishow Award in the category revelation artist. However, Marvvila took an important precaution in today’s times.
The lyrics of the song have a part that says: “I miss you censoring my dress”. The controversial verse refers to an abusive, sexist and toxic relationship. At the time of recording, Marvvila changed “censuring” to “praising” and resolved the issue for the new audience that would know the song. The song was released in 1997, shortly before the singer’s birth, which is May 1999.
Coincidentally, the theme of the abusive relationship was on the agenda in the first week of “Big Brother Brasil 23”, with the relationship between Bruna Griphao and Gabril. Even the presenter Tadeu Schmidt intervened and gave the participants a touch.
Memory
This is not the first time that the verse has been altered by other artists. In the 2000s, the Rio de Janeiro rock group Forfun also re-recorded the song. At the time, the change was motivated by a gender issue. As it was a man singing the song, the line was changed to: “I miss you censoring my style”.
