Marisa: Suppliers file for bankruptcy – 05/11/2023 – Market

Two suppliers have filed for bankruptcy against Marisa Lojas with the São Paulo Court of Justice in recent days for debts totaling more than R$709,000, according to the processes to which the Sheet had access.

One of the bankruptcy requests was filed by Mgm Comércio de Acessório de Modas on May 3rd with the 3rd Bankruptcy and Judicial Recovery Court of the TJSP. The value of the share is R$ 363,562.44.

The second bankruptcy filing is from Oneflip Indústria e Comércio de Calçados, which has been pending since last Tuesday (9) at the 2nd Bankruptcy and Judicial Reorganization Court of the TJSP, in the amount of R$ 345,733.98.

The news about the orders was published by the Valor Econômico newspaper.

Sought by the report, Marisa’s financial director, Roberta Leal, said that the company is negotiating debts with all its suppliers, and that it has already managed to settle almost 90% of what it owed.

She also stated that the value is insignificant compared to what has already been negotiated. “The processes in question are already being negotiated,” she said. “The number of suppliers with whom we have already negotiated is very high”, she added.

According to Leal, Marisa was unaware of the lawsuit filed by Oneflip. She said that another lawsuit, filed by Plasútil recently, has already been settled.

The retailer has been undergoing a restructuring process after suffering losses in its balance sheets. In the fourth quarter of 2022, the company reported a net loss of BRL 188.6 million, up 669% compared to the same period of the previous year.

In a material fact attached to the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) on the night of this Thursday (11), the company stated that “it was not mentioned in the bankruptcy process referred to in the Official Letter and that it only became aware of the mentioned bankruptcy process upon receipt of the Craft”.

Marisa also said that she will present her defense “as soon as possible”.
