Valentine’s month in Brazil is a good time to talk about and celebrate the positive side of relationships and also raise awareness about bad behavior. The actress Marina Ruy Barbosa, as an international brand ambassador, she used the campaign to reflect on the topic.

“We still have a long way to go when it comes to abuse against women. I know that this is an urgent cause for all of us, but I hope that with my reach I can bring more information, more attention to this issue of combating violence against women”,

said the actress,

According to the actress, 67% of her audience on Instagram are women, but that it is necessary to take this to everyone, friends and family.

“Our intention is to emphasize these signs of attention that we women have during relationships.”

The Yves Saint Laurent Beauté campaign launched a website offering online training and educational resources for survivors of abusive relationships and those looking to become allies in the fight. The AzMina Institute, a partner in the campaign, provides an app to share information and a map with public services that assist survivors of violence throughout Brazil.

“People still don’t understand that domestic violence is a social and structural problem, not an individual one; and therefore, the responsibility in facing it is also social, collective and political”,

says writer and psychoanalyst Manuela Xavier, who also participated in the event.

“Today, although we have come a long way with regard to the visibility and guarantee of women’s rights, we still live in a sexist and patriarchal Brazil that continues to close its eyes to the reality of domestic violence.”

According to Manuela, an important step to face violence against women is education.

“There is an urgent need for an education policy that deconstructs the idea that girls should be fragile and obedient and boys should be strong and virile, a policy that educates society to recognize the signs of abuse and violence, and legal guarantees that empower women to denounce their comrades; and above all, a cultural revolution that considers gender equality as a measure that preserves women’s lives.”
