Finalists of the FIFA Club World Cup this Friday (22), Manchester City and Fluminense are two examples of the gulf in revenue between the big European clubs and the South American teams. While one is in good financial health, the other leads in debt.
According to a survey by consultancy Sports Value, Manchester City’s total revenue is R$3.8 billion compared to R$347 million for Fluminense.
The English team only loses in total debts. While Rio has R$678 million in accounts payable, City has R$392 million.
In addition to revenue, City moves more money in areas such as television rights, marketing, revenue on game days, football costs, salaries and squad value. See below:
- Television rights: R$1.6 billion for Manchester City against R$151 million for Fluminense;
- Marketing: R$1.9 billion against R$33 million;
- Matchday (revenue from tickets, food and club products purchased by fans on game days): R$339 million versus R$46 million;
- Football costs: R$2.4 billion against R$262 million;
- Salaries: R$2 billion against R$678 million;
- Squad value: R$7.4 billion against R$381 million.
