Manaus holds 1st Folkloric Fair at the Povos da Amazônia Cultural Center

With the aim of valuing the cultural and economic matrices that are passed down from generation to generation and their diversities, the City Hall of Manaus, through the Municipal Foundation of Culture, Tourism and Events (Manauscult), launched, this Thursday, (11 ), the 1st Folklore Fair of Manaus, at the Centro Cultural Povos da Amazônia (CCPA), at bola da Suframa, Industrial District, in the south zone.

The fair will always take place from Thursday to Sunday, from 6 pm to 11 pm, from 5/11 to 5/28.

According to the director-president of Manauscult, Osvaldo Cardoso, the fair aims to value folkloric manifestations, ranging from customs to gastronomy, in addition to being a “warm-up” for the 65th Amazonas Folk Festival (FFA).

“It is with great happiness that Manaus receives this gift. This folkloric fair is the first event for training folkloric groups, in addition to being a ‘warm up’ for the festival. Here we have a family environment, with a food court, with security, with a playground. In partnership with Semtepi, we have a space for selling handicrafts. We also have different timetables for public transport, leaving here for the Suframa ball to the terminals, so all you have to do is come and enjoy it with your family”, highlighted the CEO of Manauscult, Osvaldo Cardoso.

The program exclusively features presentations of typical dances such as square dances, cirandas, cacetinho, tribes, bois-bumbás, national, international and northeastern dances, which are preparing for the June festivities in Manaus.

Driving entrepreneurship and ensuring extra income for stallholders, cook Suelen Souza has been present at folk events in the region for 14 years. She is the owner of “Delícias Tropicais” and commented that she combined her passion for Amazonian cuisine with her love for folkloric dances.

“My expectation is that the public will come and that we will have an extra income. For us, self-employed, who work in this field, the event helps a lot in our family income”, said the self-employed, Suelen Souza.

Artist Diogo Pinheiro, 40 years old, is from the municipality of Parintins and was invited to exhibit his paintings at the folkloric fair. For him, spaces that value the local artist are essential for the enhancement of regional visual arts.

The feeling is one of gratitude for the opportunity given to me to promote my art, which is my passion. I want to thank Manaus City Hall for this opportunity and for bringing a bit of culture to people and helping the artists involved in this great project”, highlighted the artist, Diogo Pinheiro.

Enjoying the first day of the event, shopping analyst Nelkson Silva highlighted that the environment, in addition to having many typical foods, dances and handicrafts, is a great program for the whole family to have fun.

“I came to honor this event that belongs to our State, which is Brazilian culture, and the June festival is coming up. There are three weeks of festival, always on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. You can come to honor, bring your family. Sunday is Mother’s Day, here there is cuisine from Pará, there is from the State of Amazonas. The event is very well organized”, said Nelkson Silva.
