For those who enjoy street carnival, in 2023 the most traditional blocks in the city will take place
Manaus (AM) — With dozens of street blocks and the traditional parade of samba schools in Manaus, the 2023 Amazonas Carnival promises a lot of joy and music. The revelers of the capital of Amazonas can choose from the most diverse carnival festivities, which promise to stir up the month of February.
For those who enjoy street carnival, in 2023 the most traditional blocks in the city will take place. The Independent Band Confraria do Armando (Bica) is organized by Bar do Armando, a stronghold of tourists and Amazonians, which completes 60 years of existence in 2023. The band takes place on February 11th, Carnaval Slim Saturday, starting at 3:30 pm, on Rua Dez de Julho, downtown Manaus, and has the Teatro Amazonas and other buildings in the Historic Center as its backdrop. The event is open to the public.
Another option is Banda da Boulevard, which will take place on Domingo Magro, February 12th, from 3pm. The block, created in 1987, brings this year the sound of “beiradão”, honoring the Amazonian musician Teixeira de Manaus. The riverside rhythm mixes with the marchinhas that animate the revelers in the block, which enters the Manaus night.
The Manaus version of Galo de Recife, Banda do Galo, already has a date set. On February 21st, starting at 4 pm, the event will take place at the Prof. Gilberto Mestrinho – Sambódromo de Manaus, in the Dom Pedro district.
Founded in 2004 by a couple from Pernambuco who lived in Manaus, Banda do Galo has already brought together more than 140,000 revelers in a single edition. With free entry to the track, the block promises 10 hours of revelry.
Samba schools
The tradition of samba schools is already old in the Amazonian capital and dates back to the mid-1940s, when the first samba school in the capital was founded, called Escola Mixta de Samba da Praça 14 de Janeiro. The first parade for the public took place in 1947. Due to so much history, Manaus has a faithful public that is passionate about the traditional Carnival parades.
The parades will take place on the 16th, 17th and 18th of February, at the Sambódromo, and admission is free. The parade days are divided between associations that make up the Access Group B, Access Group A and Special Group.
On February 16th, Thursday, the parades begin with the samba schools of the Access Group B:
