Economic project that aims to exchange wood logs for bricks from partner brickyards
The Municipal Department of Urban Cleaning (Semulsp) is developing a project that involves the use of wood acquired by the pruning service that is the cutting of trees, generating some wood logs that end up being discarded in the sanitary landfill. The idea is to generate something economical, which is the exchange of wood logs for bricks from partner brickyards.
Semulsp’s Selective Collection coordinator, Luiz Paz, explains that there is a 10-cubic-meter box at the headquarters that stores the wood logs. “When it is full, the box is passed on to the partner brickyards in this project, such as João de Barro”, he said.
For the manager, in one month, four to five boxes are distributed, which will be used for firing the kilns of the brick companies. “This partnership is fantastic, and our idea is to expand services so that we can give these logs an appropriate final destination. The Semulsp secretary, Sabá Reis, has all the support we need to continue executing the partnerships”, he said.
There are currently three places that receive wood logs: the sanitary landfill, located at Km 19 of the AM-010; the Industrial Microdistrict of Manaus (Dimicro), located in the Brasileirinho branch, east zone; and the headquarters of Semulsp, located in the Compensa district, in the West zone.
The bricks are used in works around the city. This exchange brings several benefits, as the tons of logs that would have been discarded in the landfill now have a sustainable destination. In addition, the project has no cost and the investment goes to construction in Manaus.
