Magalu: former employee hits target with farewell email – 06/02/2023 – Market

“Monetized my resignation”. This is how marketing analyst Fernando Pinheiro, 33, summarized his departure from Magalu.

Dismissed on Tuesday morning (30), he scheduled a farewell email to be sent to 800 colleagues and added a 25% discount coupon to the message. In doing so, he sold enough products to meet his revenue target for the company and receive a bonus commission.

Pinheiro reported the story on Twitter and, since then, says he has accumulated job offers. The publication went viral, reaching more than 76,000 likes, 2,900 retweets and 2.1 million views.

“There were people who called me a sucker in the comments, but I’m in a super competitive market and I need to do my best. I kept an open door at Magalu and managed to show my work to other companies”, says the marketing analyst to Sheet.

The former employee left the email for the end of the day out of respect for the company’s request for discretion regarding the termination. “I only commented with my team and managers during the day.”

Pinheiro says he cannot reveal the conversion rate he got on the coupon, out of respect for the LGPD (General Data Protection Law).

The dismissal of the marketing analyst was part of a reduction in the staff of Netshoes and Zatini, companies from Magalu whose market relationship accounts were controlled by Pinheiro. “It wasn’t about performance,” he says.

Sought by the report, Magalu did not answer the number of people affected by the cut. According to the company, the layoffs “are part of a process of reorganizing structures and capturing operational synergies in the fashion and sports verticals”.

Magalu bought Netshoes and Zattini for BRL 244 million in 2019, and the current movement seeks integration, said the retailer.

Pinheiro says that other recruiters have already approached him, but that he still hasn’t had time to sift through the offers. “There were companies of all sizes. Some large ones, which asked not to have their names disclosed, but mostly small agencies. There was a proposal to be an analyst, manager and even an executive.”

Although he received a guarantee fund, other labor rights and a bonus, Pinheiro intends to return to the market when possible.

“I’m not going to take the first proposal that came in, I’ll analyze everything calmly, but I need a source of income. My wife is unemployed and, although we have a good reserve, we can’t keep this embezzlement.”

According to Pinheiro, the repercussions were part of a strategy. “I knew it would resonate, because it had an emotional trigger and storytelling. The proportion exceeded what I had imagined.”

The marketing professional has two graduations related to his area of ​​expertise and has been working with relationships between companies for about eight years, and had already worked at Netshoes and Zattini, before these companies were purchased by Magalu in 2019.

According to Pinheiro’s post on LinkedIn, marketers need to be creative to stand out in a tough market. On the social network focused on corporate and work issues, the post by the former Magalu manager garnered more than 30,000 likes and 161 shares.
