Lula’s nominees for BC’s board will be questioned in the Senate this Tuesday

The Economic Affairs Commission (CAE) will question economist Gabriel Galípolo and lawyer Ailton de Aquino Santos this Tuesday (4). They were nominated by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for the direction of the Central Bank (BC). The sabbaths should begin after the end of the deliberative meeting of the collegiate, scheduled for 8:30 am.
University professor, Galípolo was nominated to occupy the Monetary Policy directorate of the Central Bank, replacing Bruno Serra Fernandes. Galípolo is executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance, headed by Minister Fernando Haddad. The rapporteur for the nomination is Senator Otto Alencar (PSD-BA), reported Agência Senado.
Galípolo has worked at the Brazilian Center for International Relations, at the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) and at Banco Fator. He also occupied the head of the Secretariats of Economy and Transport in the state government of São Paulo. He holds a degree in economics and a master’s degree in political economy.
In turn, Ailton Aquino Santos has been a lawyer and civil servant at the BC since 1998, where he has held various positions, including that of chief auditor at the institution. Senator Irajá (PSD-TO) is the rapporteur for the nomination. The nominee will replace Paulo Sérgio Neves de Souza on the BC Inspection board. With a degree in law and accounting sciences, Santos has postgraduate degrees in the areas of business economic engineering, constitutional law and international accounting.
