Lula’s minister defends partnership with Tarcísio – 02/21/2023 – Panel SA

The Minister of Transport, Renan Filho, affirms that the partnership established by President Lula (PT) with the Governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), for the reconstruction of the roads affected by the rains in the state will cover from the liberation from the highways for the departure of tourists and the engineering project to the financing of the works.

“Dividing responsibility at the time of disasters is always important, because a disaster is never expected. Joining forces is important, and the president’s visit [a São Sebastião] was exactly for that”, said the minister to Panel SA.

The partnership between Lula and Tarcísio, which has been praised by both, bothers allies of former President Bolsonaro.

Renan Filho says that technicians from the DNIT (National Department of Transport Infrastructure) will be available to the government of São Paulo to work on the Rio-Santos highway (BR 101).

“The president determined that we collaborate in the financing of the work, in the division of tasks and in the verification of the role of each one. But the federal government will collaborate with the reconstruction, even though it is a state highway”, said the minister.

It still remains to measure the damage in detail.

“We hope to release the region’s highways as soon as possible, even if provisionally, for detours, including, if necessary, guaranteeing security for the citizen because many people need to return home. And then we will build the engineering projects, identify in more detail the size of the damage that the highways suffered so that, only from there, we can design the reconstruction”, said Renan Filho.

One of the tools that should help in the work, according to the government, is the new event monitoring panel for critical periods of rain, which was already in the plan for the first hundred days of the new PT administration announced last month. The resource should come into full operation in the first half of March, according to forecasts by the ministry.
