Lula says he will not give a ‘hobby horse’ to the economy – 09/26/2023 – Market

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Tuesday (26) that, during his government, economic policy will be maintained in a “serene” manner and that there will be no sudden changes in direction, no “hobby horse” .

“The economy will remain serene. No one here will give the economy a break, they won’t invent anything. They will do what they need to do”, stated the president.

The president’s speech came at a time when he defended that his government continues to acquire credibility and offer predictability, both for ordinary workers and large businesspeople.

Lula participated this Tuesday morning in an event at Palácio do Planalto to launch a strategy for the development of the industrial complex in the health sector in the country.

The president praised the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, on several occasions, praising his “serenity” at different times during the first months of government, both in victories and defeats.

The government announced this Tuesday (26) six structuring programs for the Industrial Economic Complex. One of the priorities is to reinforce the production of inputs for socially determined diseases, such as tuberculosis, Chagas disease, viral hepatitis.

The initiative also includes investment in chronic diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and immunological diseases.

Another axis is the productive development partnership in conjunction with the private sector for technology transfer. The estimate is that public authorities will attract around R$23 billion from the private sector by 2026.

The Ministry of Health’s intention with the resumption of the Health Industrial Economic Complex, which took place in April this year, is to produce 70% of the SUS’ needs within 10 years.

The lack of IFA, for example, for the manufacture of vaccines during the pandemic and the shortage of essential medicines exposed the country’s dependence on imports.

In Cuba, a cooperation protocol was signed with a focus on strengthening the industrial complex. The intention is to produce medicines and vaccines for chronic diseases to meet the PNI (National Immunization Program) and Cuba’s needs.

The Minister of Health, Nisia Trindade, said that the complex aims to reduce the vulnerability of the SUS, because Brazil imports around R$20 billion a year in inputs due to low national production.

“This policy was widely discussed with social movements and with the participation of society, which defined the Economic Complex as a state policy committed to the demands of Brazilian society,” he said

The six structuring programs of the Industrial Complex

• Partnership program for productive development: coordination between the government and the private sector for technology transfer;
• Local development and innovation program: investment in local initiatives with a technological focus, such as artificial intelligence for the early detection of diseases;
• Program for preparing vaccines, serums and blood products: Stimulates the national production of technologies, such as vaccines and medicines;
• Program for neglected populations and diseases: production of medicines focusing on neglected diseases, such as tuberculosis and leprosy;
• Assistance modernization and innovation program: Expansion of the Industrial Complex must be coordinated with philanthropic entities, responsible for 60% of all highly complex services;
• Program for expansion and modernization of infrastructure: It articulates public and private investments for the productive and infrastructure expansion of the Complex itself.
