President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) criticized this Tuesday (7th) the privatization of Eletrobras and stated that the Attorney General’s Office (AGU) should go to court to review the contract. Lula said that the privatization carried out in the Bolsonaro government was “almost banditry”. The statement was made by the president during a breakfast with representatives of independent media vehicles, reported the newspaper O Globo.

“At Eletrobras, the government owns 40% of the shares, and the government can only participate in management as if it had 10%. If tomorrow the government is interested in buying the shares, the shares for the government are worth three times more than the normal value for another candidate. In other words, almost banditry was carried out so that the government would not acquire a majority in Eletrobras again”, said the president.

Lula stated that the privatization contract is “against the government” within the company. “We, including possibly the attorney general of the Union, will go to court so that we can review this leonine contract against the government. Because it’s against the government. Both in terms of shareholding, we want to have more people in management, more people on the board, and this thing you can’t buy because you’ll pay three times more. This is an irrational, Machiavellian thing that we cannot accept”, he criticized.
