Lula may have a triple international embarrassment – 05/30/2023 – Vinicius Torres Freire

Despite Lula 3’s delusions of grandeur, there is no chance that his government will be able to do anything to bring an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine. Brazil lives far away, is poorly paid, has no money or weapons.

There would be little chance of doing something for Venezuela. For example, an agreement by regional leaders to develop a transition plan in the neighboring country. It doesn’t usually work out, but it’s what we have. Furthermore, the majority of Latin America is on its knees, for a change, in more or less serious crises in the economy and in recurrent bouts of stupidity and violence. But, at least, it could be an alternative to the cruel and fanciful project of the United States of handing over the country to the lunatic right and starving Venezuelans.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva preferred, however, to encourage Nicolás Maduro to lie even more and to invent a “narrative” for the sordid ruin that this tyrant helped to create there. He treated Maduro as a friend and gave an enthusiastic speech in favor of misleading propaganda.

It could just be isolated foam of nonsense. It’s not the case. Lula 3’s government is still trying to mend the damage of its Russo-Ukrainian adventure. There is a risk of international embarrassment in the environment.

Join the words “oil”, “Amazon”, “native Brazilians” and Lula in a headline of a text that would deal with oil exploration in the Foz do Amazonas basin, the sea facing Amapá and Marajó (Pará).

The imaginary report would also deal with the defeat of the defenders of the demarcation of more lands for indigenous people (the so-called “time frame”). I would also say that the right made a “strike”, knocking down a lot of progressive pins. He shaved part of the ministries of two non-white women (Marina Silva and Sonia Guajajara), defenders of the forest, the environment, native peoples and other disadvantaged peoples.

As is known, the agro ogre, clientelists and the chucra right in general took bodies and institutions from the ministries of the Environment and Native Peoples.

This imaginary report would explain that these defeats are due to the fact that Lula 3 does not have strength in Congress and, also, that government and PT members do not care much about the environment and indigenous people there. To top it off, all that’s missing is the Amazon going up in flames because of the approaching El Niño season — nothing to do with Lula, certainly, but the damage would be complete: “Lula does not contain environmental ruin in Brazil”.

As if the risk of international bad reputation were not enough, the government’s nonsense and political blunders join the silliness and domestic falls.

Last week, Lula launched “More Cars”, a piece literally without foot or head. An economic, technological, social and environmental idea already bad in itself, was announced without any foundation, without cost and benefit calculations. A fiasco.

Arthur Lira (PP-AL), mayor and informal premier of the semi-presidential cohabitation government (PT in the Executive, right in Congress), is letting the boat go and gloats. He takes care only in cases of “country projects”, such as the fiscal framework and other matters that are also of interest to the owners of money.

He has just said that the government has not presented any plan to solve the problem of the demarcation of indigenous lands and that, therefore, it is going to take a tunda, with Lira’s approval. He said that the Chamber will do what it wants regarding the organization of the ministries; that he, Lira, washes his hands and that the petista can fend for himself with the hyenas. In short, Lula 3 doesn’t even have the strength to reorganize the government, after Jair Bolsonaro’s darkness.

With so much roll, Lula still put on the Venezuelan show to please the most retrograde PT audience. Sleep with a Maduro like that.
