Lula has to expose much more of Bolsonaro’s cursed heritage – 02/11/2023 – Market

The massacre of the Yanomami is the most horrific example of Jair Bolsonaro’s cursed heritage. However, the attacks on life, criminal negligence and mindless violence against basic human competence and decency went much further into the dark years. In a while, there is a risk that the Lula government, like any other, will enter into a routine and be absorbed by difficulties and crises or political conveniences. Thus, the well-documented denunciation of the dark years may become just a forgotten slogan, “no amnesty”.

Some barbarities have been in plain sight for some time. The vaccination rate for children began to fall from 2015 onwards. In Bolsonaro’s dark years, they dropped to critical and criminal levels. The rate of vaccination against infantile paralysis was around the house from 98% from 2011 to 2015. It dropped to 84% in 2016. In 2021, the most recent data available, to 69%. In the case of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), it was almost 100%. In 2021, 73%. Etc.

Bolsonaro and militias campaigned against vaccines, obvious. But who were responsible for the negligence in the administration, dominated by so many Bolsonarist doctors and by generals and colonels?

How is the investigation into facilitating the purchase of weapons going, even by the depraved norms of Bolsonarism? How did you oil the arms trade for crime? Who took money from the lobby?

The Lula government is on the verge of confirming the dominance of the negotiator policy over Codevasf, the interior development agency disguised as a state-owned company, for administrative convenience. It is a feud of PP and União Brasil, granted by Bolsonaro, a spawning ground for parliamentary amendments and investigated by the Federal Police and TCU. It’s a volcano of scandals ready to explode. The lava will flow in the PT government.

Lula says that the Attorney General’s Office will file a lawsuit against the privatization of Eletrobras, in fact taking the policy to court, which he promised not to do. Wants to have control over the former state. It says nothing about the lobby that included favors to big businessmen in the privatization nut law, just as it says nothing about the many benefits that Congress grants to certain lobbies in the energy sector.

What does the government already know about the dismantling of Inep and about the funds for gold-loving pastors in the Ministry of Education? About the Enem debacle?

What is known about the maintenance of roads and transport infrastructure in general, which will soon fall apart, perhaps even under Lula? More notoriously, the PT government has so far been more dedicated to dealing with interest and debt, in an uninformed, counterproductive and political manner.

It is not possible to have a government program, in practice, without knowing the size of the disaster (with which we will also find out who is responsible). Bolsonarism criminals will go unpunished and ready to return, in 2024 or 2026, if nothing is done to hold them accountable.
