Lula: Crop Plan for Family Farming will cost R$71.6 billion – 06/28/2023 – Market

President Lula (PT) announced this Wednesday (28) the Crop Plan aimed at family farming. The representative stated that the program provides for the allocation of R$ 71.6 billion to rural credit for 2023 and 2024. According to him, the amount is 34% higher than the previous harvest.

It is also planned to reduce the interest rate from 5% to 4% per year for those who produce specific foodstuffs, such as rice, beans, milk and eggs, among others.

Several MST (Landless Movement) leaders and militants participated in the event at the Planalto Palace.

In the speech, Lula sent hints to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). “You see that unlike other presidents, I am not ordering you to buy weapons, because they said to buy them to defend democracy. I want you to produce as much as you can produce of the highest quality food because the great weapon that the country needs is the people with a full belly,” he said.

The Chief Executive once again spoke of creating a “shelf” of land to prevent invasions.

“If we have an institute in each state that takes care of the land, my question is the following: why do we have to wait for people to invade land for us to be able to buy it? Why don’t we do a survey of all the vacant lands, all idle lands, and we create a counter in the government, a shelf of lands?”, he said.

According to him, the idea can be extended to the urban area as well. “This applies as much to the countryside as it does to the outskirts of this country. How much land must there be vacant, must there be from the Union, in the States and the people living crowded together on stilts, while we can give that land to the people, finance , and recover human dignity,” he said.

On Tuesday (27), Lula had already announced that the Crop Plan 2023/2024 will total R$ 364.22 billion to finance the agricultural activity of medium and large rural producers.

The announcement of the value, record —as anticipated by the Sheet—, takes place amid the government’s efforts to improve the relationship with agribusiness, a sector that was close to Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
