Agreement rules out the possibility of the work being carried out without the participation of the São Paulo government, as was once considered. Construction of the tunnel is foreseen in the PAC; Lula goes to São Paulo on Friday (2). Lula and Tarcísio spoke this Tuesday at Palácio do Planalto Ricardo Stuckert/ PR President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio Freitas, met this Tuesday (30) in Brasília and decided to establish a partnership for the work of the Santos-Guarujá tunnel. Estimated at approximately R$6 billion, the work is part of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC). The tunnel, submerged, should reduce the journey between the two cities to around a few minutes, which currently takes an hour via highway. The agreement between the president and the governor this Tuesday rules out the possibility, which was discussed, that the tunnel project would be carried out without the participation of the São Paulo government. The work is relevant to the political project of both Lula and Tarcísio, who occupy different sides of the political spectrum. After the meeting between Lula and Tarcísio, the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, who also participated in the meeting, spoke to the press at Palácio do Planalto. The work, according to him, will be announced during Lula’s trip to Santos on Friday (2). “A little while ago, the president finished a meeting with the governor of Tarcísio. The president will be in Santos on Friday and will announce new partnerships with the government of São Paulo,” said the minister. “Many were skeptical about the PAC’s investments, which we are materializing”, added the minister. Santos-Guarujá Tunnel, designed almost 100 years ago, is included in the new PAC
