Lira urges the vote on the new tax rule; government expects 350 votes

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), scheduled for this Wednesday’s session (17) the vote on the urgent request for the appreciation of the text of the new tax rule, proposed by the Ministry of Finance and which has already had the report finalized by rapporteur Cláudio Cajado (PP-BA).

If the urgent request is approved in the session, starting at 1:55 pm, the text that establishes a new fiscal framework to replace the current spending ceiling will be analyzed directly by the plenary on the 24th, according to the Chamber of Deputies, without the need to pass by thematic commissions. “We are making a modern law, a contemporary law”, said Cajado.

The rapporteur stated that the text “represents the consensus” of the negotiations he held in recent weeks with the parties and the government. “The text manages to bring all thoughts together,” he said.

Government expects vote with large advantage, says Haddad

In a hearing in the Chamber of Deputies in the morning, Minister Fernando Haddad said that he expects a large advantage from the government for the approval of the new fiscal rule beyond the 257 necessary.

“The rapporteur did a job to look for that expanded center to obtain a positive result. Not just the 257 votes, but a larger space of 300, 350 votes to signal the country that this center is being reinforced”, he said, reinforcing the forecast given in the Tuesday (16).

Haddad also reinforced that he hopes that, with the new fiscal rule, the country will grow again “above the world average”. “This year, we should grow something close to 2%, but it’s little, in my opinion”, complete.

In addition to the Minister of Finance, the executive secretary of the portfolio, Gabriel Galípolo, completed the speech and stated that “after the stage of the fiscal rule, of the tax reform, we are going to open an avenue to discuss what is strategic for Brazil”, said on record Power 360.
