The mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), said that the approval of the tax reform is one of the government’s priorities and that the proposal should be voted on in the plenary of the House within three months. The statements were made on Tuesday (31) in an interview with GloboNews.

“In the conversations we had (with the government), the intention of the Minister of Economy is for us, in a month, two, two and a half months, to revisit these matters, discuss the themes, bring new parliamentarians closer to the subject, revisit municipalities and public administration states and businessmen so that we have, with a consolidated base of support, this vote in two and a half months, three (months)”, said Lira, citing PEC 45.

The text of PEC 45 is inspired by a proposal by Bernard Appy, founder of CCiF, who currently holds the position of special secretary for tax reform at the Ministry of Finance, chosen by Minister Fernando Haddad. In general terms, PEC 45 provides for the unification of five taxes on consumption (IPI, PIS, Cofins, ICMS and ISS) into a single tax, which would be called Tax on Goods and Services (IBS).
