The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), promised to approve the “consensual minimum” of the tax reform text in the first week of July, before the parliamentary recess. The promise was given this Monday (26) during the participation in the XI Legal Forum of Lisbon.
Lira confirmed that the project will be discussed over the next week in the plenary of the Chamber, and that deputies should be able to overcome the “challenges” to meet all interests.
Last week, he received governors and representatives from all states who took demands and criticism for fear of losing revenue – mainly in producing states that will be affected by the change in ICMS collection.
“We plan that, in the week of July 3rd to 7th, the Chamber of Deputies will be democratically open to its population, calling on everyone to have a broad, fair debate, so that we have a tax reform that aims to facilitate, simplify and provide more transparency and legal security for the country”, he said.
Just last week, Lira promised to listen to mayors and representatives of the productive sectors to reach an agreement on how to compensate for possible losses in collection with the union of five taxes in just one.
Lira also stated that the tax reform is necessary to position Brazil as a nation “respectable and prepared to face its problems”.
