Known for the series “King of Queens”, she was a member of the religion between 1979, when she was still a child, and 2013. After that, she co-created, produced and presented the documentary series “Scientology and the Aftermath”, about how the religious organization affected the lives of some of its former members. “For 17 years, Scientology and David Miscavige subjected me to what I believe to be psychological torture, defamation, surveillance, harassment and intimidation, significantly impacting my life and career,” the actress said in a press release. “I believe I am not the first person to be targeted by Scientology and its operations, but I intend to be the last.” In the lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court of the US state of California, Remini seeks compensation for alleged damages that the Church caused to their personal and professional lives. According to “Variety” magazine, the Church of Scientology did not respond to requests for comment on the lawsuit.
