The president of the Parliamentary Entrepreneurship Front (FPE), deputy Joaquim Passarinho (PL-PA), stated this Tuesday (21) that party leaders will ask for priority in voting on projects to overturn the government ordinance on work on Sundays and holidays . On the 14th, the Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho, signed ordinance 3,665/2023.

According to the determination, employees will only be able to work on holidays and Sundays if the decision is approved by a collective agreement assembly of the category of workers. The parliamentarian said that 17 draft legislative decrees (PDLs) have already been presented to suspend the ordinance in the Chamber of Deputies.

“Our leaders, from PL, PSD, PSDB, from several other parties, will now ask the president [da Câmara, Arthur Lira] that can guide these PDLs as quickly as possible. Especially because, not only is the measure for us strange, but so is the timing”, said Passarinho in an interview with g1 portal.

The government ordinance suspended the 2021 determination that established that work on holidays depended only on a clause in the employment contract, as long as the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) working hours were respected. Party leaders intend to vote on the PDLs this week. The legislative decree comes into force as soon as it is approved by the Chamber and the Senate.

“We don’t know how big the impact of this will be yet, especially because it’s not a ban. It’s the inclusion of an entity in the conversation. You’re putting the union to negotiate on behalf of the workers, we don’t know what difficulties this will cause and what this will increase expenses”, said the deputy.

Proposals were also presented in the Senate to overturn the government ordinance on work, such as the bill presented by the leader of the opposition in the Senate, Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), and the PDL presented by senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI). “The government’s measure is not only unreasonable, but a setback for workers, who will have less freedom; for employers, who will have increased costs, and for consumers, who will pay more for services and products. We will not accept Brazil marching backwards”, said Nogueira on the social network X on the 16th.
