O Kazakhstan is little reported in the Brazilian press. In recent weeks, for example, the Central Asian country has been cited in the sports area. Tennis player Elena Ribakyna, one of the best in the world today, represents Kazakhstan and won the women’s tournament in Indian Wells, in addition to being second in the dispute in Miami, both championships held in the United States.
For now Kazakhstan can go beyond the sports pages and win the economic news in Brazil, especially in gaucho soil. “Kazakhstan can definitely enter the business map of Rio Grande do Sul”, summarized the president of the Federation of Industries of the State (Fiergs), Gilberto Petry, who is also vice-president of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) and left excited after the first meeting with representatives of the local government.

Conversations began through embassies and industry representative entities. Kazakh diplomats and representatives of QazIndustry, equivalent to the CNI, showed optimism in the last agenda of the day, the one open to journalists, especially as it deals with the first Brazilian mission to the Asian country. Conversations began at the embassies and were consolidated with the 1st Meeting of the Brazil-Kazakhstan Bilateral Committee, held last year at Fiergs in Porto Alegre.

This Thursday will be held in Astana the 2nd Meeting of the Brazil-Kazakhstan Bilateral Committee and there is expectation of advances for the realization of deals. Foreign trade between the two countries was $190 million in 2022a number that has a lot of potential to grow, with businesses in several sectors.
One of them is that of fertilizers. Businessman Mário Darós, a partner at Fertilizantes Piratini, is part of the delegation from Rio Grande do Sul and sees Kazakhstan as having great potential for growth in its fertilizer production.
“Brazil is dependent on fertilizer imports. It has a consumption of 42 million tons per year and produces the smallest part of it, needs to import. Rio Grande do Sul imports raw materials and they are processed for each crop”, he explains, citing the mixing units installed in the State, which also depend on raw materials. “Kazakhstan’s fertilizer industry is booming. They are interested in exporting and we are interested in buying”, he noted, noting that it is necessary to evaluate the issue logistics for this, especially the distance from ports.
Kazakhstan has train lines that cross the country and reach neighboring nations. There is even a direct rail connection to a port in China, where the country has an agreement to operate its own port terminal in the territory of the Asian giant.
In addition to the fertilizer sector, the president of Fiergs specifically mentions large Rio Grande do Sul companies that will be able to do business, such as Tramontina, which already sells products in Kazakhstan and plans to expand, and Marcopolo, which operates in the Asian market and could sell buses to Kazakhstan. Petry also mentions BSBios, from Passo Fundo, which is in contact with the mission and does not rule out sending a representative to the meeting on Thursday.
The bilateral meeting was deliberately scheduled for the end of the afternoon, due to the time zone, thus, in addition to brazilian industrialists who will be in person in Astana, others will be able to follow remotely, through online transmission. Representatives from WEG, Santa Catarina, and Embraer are also expected.
The national airline, Air Astana, which has the government as its main shareholder, is expanding its fleet of planes, having bought three aircraft from Airbus last year and, according to information published in its in-flight magazine, plans a new batch of six more aircraft. until 2025, with the expansion of its international network.
O ambassador of Brazil in Kazakhstan, Rubem Corrêa Barbosa, who attended a dinner this Tuesday night between the Brazilian delegation and QazIndustry, observes that the embraer already has aircraft operating on Air Astana’s regional routes and which may also expand business. The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer is going to participate in the bilateral meeting this Thursday.
