The Justice of Rio de Janeiro decided this Wednesday (18) that the contractual BTG does not need to return R$ 1.2 billion to Americanas. The amount refers to a debt settled in advance, on the 12th, by the bank after the revelation of a BRL 20 billion breach in the retailer’s accounts, which occurred on the 11th.

The decision, signed by Judge Flávio Marcelo de Azevedo Horta Fernandes, is preliminary, that is, it is valid until the writ of mandamus presented by BTG is analyzed. With the judge’s determination, the amount of BRL 1.2 billion was blocked in Americanas’ account at BTG, reported the newspaper O Globo.

Last week, Americanas obtained a decision that prevents the collection of the company’s debts in advance for 30 days. However, BTG appealed the decision, arguing that the measure could not retroact and suspend charges already made.
