Eletrobras said this Wednesday (3rd) that the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region (TRF1) determined the suspension of any and all activities of its subsidiary Eletronorte in the indigenous lands Canabrava/Guajajara, Rodeador, Lagoa Comprida and Urucu/Juruá, in the Maranhao.
The decision also includes the suspension of licenses granted for the 500 KV Tucuruí-Marabá-Imperatriz-President Dutra transmission line, according to a statement from the energy company.
The Court also ordered that Ibama not grant new licenses for the enterprise until the Study of the Indigenous Component is carried out, according to the document.
Eletronorte will need to pay the equivalent of a minimum monthly wage to each member of the indigenous communities, Eletrobras said. The estimate is 17 million reais to be disbursed until the conclusion of the study, according to the company.
Eletrobras stated that, together with Eletronorte, it is “adopting the required measures, in order to preserve the interests of the company and its shareholders”.
