Senator Jean Paul Prates (PT-RN) resigned from his mandate in Congress on Wednesday (25) pending the decision of the Board of Directors of Petrobras to assume the presidency of the company. The resignation – which takes place five days before the end of the legislative term – was necessary for him to occupy the position in the state-owned company.

The committee is meeting on the morning of this Thursday (26) to vote on the transfer of Pratas to the position. If his nomination is approved, he will temporarily assume the presidency of Petrobras until the shareholders’ meeting is held, which will confirm his nomination once and for all.

On January 13, the oil company announced that it received a letter from the Ministry of Mines and Energy confirming the nomination of the now former senator to hold the positions of president and member of the Board of Directors of Petrobras. Prates was one of the coordinators of the Mines and Energy technical group during the transitional government.
