Ivan Lopes leaves Mukeka after almost a decade

After almost a decade, chef Ivan Lopes announced this Friday that he is leaving the Mukeka restaurant. The decision, according to Ivan, came after months of many reflections and conversations with partner Fabrício Dantas, who now runs the venture alone.
Proof that this is an amicable divorce, as Dantas points out, in the coming weeks a special dinner should be held at Mukeka to mark the farewell of chef Ivan Lopes from the house. Ivan should also be part of Mukeka’s ten-year celebrations, which complete a decade of existence in October this year.
“It’s been a healthy end to the marriage. There isn’t one side that is being hurt, but it’s always hurt. I say that Mukeka is my third child and Ivan shares this paternity with me”, says Dantas.
According to the entrepreneur, a new chef will not be hired to replace Ivan. The idea, according to Dantas, is to continue with the current kitchen team, which had already been working for some months without Ivan’s daily presence. “I know that this was one of the things that made Ivan calm to move on to other projects. The certainty that the team will be able to deliver a good job.”
Outside of Mukeka, Ivan Lopes continues at Coin and with two parallel projects: personal chef and the kitchen for events. The chef already has a signature menu at Mansão Jardino, an event space located in the former Forneria Copacabana da Itupava.
“It’s a focus and direction that I intend to give more to my career from now on, organizing events, cooking in people’s homes and, perhaps, teaching as well”, says Ivan.
At Coin, what you can expect is a little more Brazilian flavor in the dishes. Now out of Mukeka, Ivan says he feels he will have more freedom to deliver a cuisine with a Brazilian touch – a feature that has always highlighted the chef and is remarkable at Mukeka – mixed with the contemporary concept at Coin. “Before, I was very afraid of mixing the concepts of the two houses. Now, it will be possible to play more with Coin’s menu.”
