IR 2023 refund: see who receives it in the first batch – 04/18/2023 – Market

Taxpayers who are interested in entering the first batch of 2023 Income Tax refunds need to rush to settle their accounts. The Federal Revenue reported that only the statements received by May 10 will be qualified for this first release of amounts.

Those contemplated will receive the money on May 31, the deadline for submitting the IR. As it happens every year, the first batch will only have contributors that are on the priority list.

By Revenue rules, the first to receive will be the elderly. See what the money order looks like?

1. Seniors aged 80 and over

2. Seniors aged 60 and over; people with disabilities and people with serious illness

3. Taxpayers whose main source of income is teaching

4. Taxpayers who opted to make the pre-filled statement and also those who choose the Pix refund

5. Other taxpayers

According to the Revenue, it never happened that the first batch had taxpayers that were not among the priorities. And that list increased this year with the inclusion of those who use the pre-filled statement and opt for Pix as a form of refund.

Up to 2:30 pm on Monday (17th), 22% of the statements submitted (around 3.1 million) used the pre-filled IR option. The volume is a record since the adoption of the system for all taxpayers in 2021. Last year, the format was used by 2.6 million taxpayers, which represented 7% of the total.

More than 77% of the 14.1 million declarations submitted this year will have tax refunds. The number of taxpayers that will be included in the first batch depends on the volume that will be paid.

“If we have many priority taxpayers with high refunds, we will have fewer beneficiaries. If we have many priority taxpayers with low refunds, we will have more people contemplated”, explains the Revenue.

After the first batch, there will be four more lists between June and August, being released on the last working day of each month. The order will follow the list of priority contributors and the delivery date.

The refund is corrected by the basic interest rate of the economy, the Selic. The correction index is defined in the month and disclosed on or shortly before the payment date.

Experts point out that not being in the first batch is not necessarily bad. For those who don’t need the money immediately, letting the money yield to wait for later lots is an investment option, since the value is corrected by the Selic, which today is at 13.75%.

“If you have the possibility to leave the money, you will receive updated by the Selic and without Income Tax discount. Very few investments will pay for that and you will still be sure that you will receive it”, says economist Sandro Rodrigues, from Attend Contabilidade.

Who is entitled to the Income Tax refund?

The refund is the return of the amount of tax paid in excess by the taxpayer during the calendar year, which in this case is 2022. The calculations to find out if there is tax to be refunded, if the balance is reset, or if it is necessary to pay IR are made by the program for completing and sending the declaration itself.
