IPVA 2024 can be paid in banks from this Tuesday – 01/01/2024 – Market

Vehicle owners in the state of São Paulo can now pay the 2024 IPVA (Motor Vehicle Property Tax) and guarantee discounts.

The owner has until the license plate’s due date to pay the tax. The amounts can be paid in up to five installments, but anyone who pays the tax in cash in January will receive a 3% discount.

After two years of increases, this year the tax is 4.1% cheaper, on average, in the state of São Paulo compared to 2023, according to the market value of vehicles measured by Fipe (Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas).

IPVA payment can be made in a single installment, with a discount, or in installments via the website www.fazenda.sp.gov.br. Registered active debt debts relating to IPVA can be consulted, paid off or paid in installments at www.dividaativa.pge.sp.gov.br. You must provide the Renavam number and vehicle license plate number. Payment is made via the banking network.

After accessing the State Treasury page, click, in the side menu on the left, on “User Guide”, then on “IPVA Payment” and then on “Consultation/Debit”. Enter Renavam and your vehicle’s license plate number to receive the IPVA calculation.

Owners can choose between the following payment methods with due dates according to the end of the license plate:

In cash

• Single quota in January with 3% discount
• Single quota in Februaryno discount

Installment, no discount, minimum quota of R$70.72

• In Three timesin January to March (IPVA ​​between R$ 212.16 and R$ 282.87)
• In 4 timesin January to April (IPVA ​​between R$ 282.88 and R$ 353.59)
• In 5 timesin January to May (IPVA ​​above R$ 353.60)

In 2024, drivers will be able to pay the tax via Pix, with the generation of a QR code that will last 15 minutes to pay the amounts, via the banking network, with Renavam or with a credit card, at authorized companies. The list can be consulted here.

Owners who wish to anticipate the annual licensing must pay all debts owed to the vehicle, including the IPVA, the licensing fee and, if applicable, traffic fines.

DELAY

Taxpayers who fail to pay the tax will pay a fine of 0.33% per day of delay and late payment interest based on the Selic rate, the economy’s basic rate. After 60 days of delay, the final percentage is 20% interest and fine.

After this period, if there is no payment, the debt will be registered in the Active Debt, in addition to the inclusion of the owner’s name in the State Cadin, preventing him from taking advantage of any credit he may have due to requesting the Nota Fiscal Paulista. From the moment the IPVA debt is registered, the State Attorney General’s Office may collect it in court.

Failure to pay the IPVA prevents the vehicle from being relicensed. After the deadline set by Detran for licensing, the vehicle may be seized, with a fine applied by the traffic authority and seven points on the CNH (National Driving License).

Vehicle licensing

The annual licensing fee will be R$160.22 in 2024 and the mandatory payment schedule runs from July 1st to December. Failure to license within the corresponding period generates several inconveniences, including a very serious infraction, removal of the vehicle from the yard, a fine of R$ 293.47 and seven points on the license, as determined by the CTB (Brazilian Traffic Code).

To obtain licensing, the person responsible for the vehicle must provide the Renavam number and pay the fee via internet banking, app, ATM of partner banks (Banco do Brasil, Bradesco, Caixa Econômica Federal, Itaú, Safra and Santander).

After payment, the download and/or print of the updated digital document must be carried out via the Detran-SP, Poupatempo and Senatran websites, in addition to the Detran-SP, Poupatempo Digital and CDT (Digital Traffic Card) applications.

If there is any pending issue in relation to the vehicle, such as IPVA, fines, late licensing fees and other issues, the licensing will not be completed, even if the fee is paid, blocking the updated document.
