Ipiranga will change gasoline and promises a reduction in consumption – 04/14/2023 – Eduardo Sodré

Next week, Ipiranga launches its new line of additive fuels. The renewal covers both formulations and nomenclatures.

DT Clean gasoline will be rebranded as Ipimax. The Octapro, with a higher octane rating and aimed at high-performance vehicles, will give way to the Ipimax Pro.

Previously rare at Ipiranga gas stations, the added ethanol will appear in more units and will also be called Ipimax. The name will also designate a new diesel option.

The original fuel, without additives, will continue to be available on the network. The company claims that prices for resellers will remain similar to those currently practiced.

“We emphasize that Ipiranga works in an environment with free prices at its points of sale, and variations may exist in certain regions of the country, depending on the specificities of the local market and the decision of each reseller”, says Bárbara Miranda, vice president of marketing and business development at Ipiranga.

The company claims that the new gasoline with additives will provide a 4% reduction in consumption when compared to the original.

As an example, Ipiranga claims that 50 liters of regular gasoline allow you to travel approximately 450 kilometers – an average of 9 km/l, compatible with the urban use of a model with a 1.0 engine.

With the use of Ipimax, this average would rise to 9.36 km/l, which would allow for 18 kilometers to be driven more.

The distributor says that these results were measured by the chemical company Innospec, but in laboratory tests. Measurements in actual use must be made by the Mauá Institute of Technology, in the Folha-Mauá test.

In the case of Ipimax ethanol, Ipiranga announces a 6% increase in yield. The additives were developed by Basf.

The main competitors had already presented improvements in their fuels. In February 2022, Vibra Energia launched the new generations of gasoline with additives Petrobras Grid and Petrobras Podium.

According to the company, there was a reduction of up to 98% in the formation of dirt inside the engine, in addition to less friction between the metallic parts in relation to regular gasoline.

The development of additives and detergents was also carried out in partnership with Basf. Vibra, however, was cautious in relation to consumption: the economy data were not released.

The renewal of Shell network fuels began in November with the arrival of the new V-Power. The company estimates that 99% of impurities are removed with constant use of this option.

The concern with the formation of crusts in engines has intensified with the evolution of electronic emission control systems. Turbocharged and gasoline direct injection engines tend to be more sensitive to low quality compounds.
