INSS: retirees are outraged by Lula – 03/22/2023 – Panel SA

The signs given by the government in the impasse over the INSS payroll rate displeased retirees, according to Sindnapi (National Union of Retirees, Pensioners and Elderly People), affiliated to Força Sindical.
João Inocentini, president of the union, says that the feeling is one of indignation with Lula and that retirees will not accept any interest proposal above 1.90% per month.
Last week, banks suspended the offer of loans in this modality after the National Social Security Council voted for a drop from 2.14% to 1.70% in the INSS payroll-deductible ceiling. The government decided to discuss the matter again, and the chief minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, foresees a revision to a level just below 2%.
“The government is negotiating with the banks without our participation. We are indignant with the President of the Republic, who has not wanted to listen to us until now”, says Inocentini.
The union invited counselors, representatives of retirees, workers and employees, to a meeting on Monday (27th) to define a proposal for the interest rate.
“Our proposal is that it be 1.90% and that every 60 days a commission is set up to see the Selic and make an assessment”, says Inocentini.
“We want to participate in the discussion. We will propose. If not, we will vote against it. The Social Security Council has autonomy and decision. The government cannot intervene”, he says.
The CNPS is composed of representatives of the Ministry of Social Security, the INSS, retirees, pensioners, workers and employers (industry, commerce and agriculture confederations).
The cut to 1.70% was approved by 12 of the 15 board members — the three employer representatives were the only ones voting against the measure.
