Combining the ideation and traction modules, the bioeconomy startups that registered exceeded the 2022 volume by 40%

Registrations for the ideation and traction modules of the Inova Amazônia Program reached a record demand in 2023. In total, 1,280 entrepreneurs with sustainable projects linked to the bioeconomy signed up – around 40% more than in the previous year. The selection result for the Traction module was released on November 24th at this link. The program is run by Sebrae in partnership with the National Council of State Research Support Foundations (CONFAP).

In total, 260 individuals were selected for the ideation module and 180 innovative companies for the traction module. The economic segments of the bioeconomy covered are: food; agriculture; aquaculture and fishing; drinks; biofuels; bioenergy; bioplastics and packaging; house and construction; ecodesign; ecotourism; pharmochemical and pharmaceutical; herbal medicines and nutraceuticals; forests; hygiene, perfumery and cosmetics; textile and fashion industry; chemistry and new materials; and information technology and logistics.

Sebrae Innovation analyst Philippe Figueiredo highlights that the success of the program is the result of the consolidation of the initiative’s image in the territory, the results obtained in the first year of operation, in addition to the network that was structured around the action.

“It is an important innovation program, especially in bioeconomy, of which we have little in Brazil. It was also configured as a network formed not only by businesspeople, but educational institutions, development banks, accelerators and investors who ended up learning about the initiative and participated more effectively in this mobilization this year”,

said Philippe Figueiredo, Innovation analyst at Sebrae.

Ideation Module

The Program Ideation module acts as a pre-acceleration of ideas linked to the bioeconomy. This phase is aimed at individuals who have not yet got their idea off the ground and need to define the business model, as well as validate their product or service and then launch it on the market. The result is now available here. The training lasts six months and starts in January.

Proposals will be supported in the nine states of the Legal Amazon: Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins. The program provides collective training and individual mentoring, in addition to carrying out activities to encourage the formation of contact networks and connections with the market. At the end of the acceleration cycle, the three best ideas from each state will be awarded prizes of R$30,000, R$20,000 and R$10,000.

Traction Module

It is aimed exclusively at small formalized businesses (legal entities) that are in operation and earning revenue. The teams submitted proposals for new products, services or improvement actions.

In total, 20 companies were selected in each state. Those chosen will receive training and mentoring from January 2024 (online and in person), in addition to participating in events in the innovation sector and a grant of R$6,500 for a period of up to six months – totaling R$ 39 thousand -, which will be passed on to the team coordinator.

Innova Amazonia

The Program is a strategy focused on promoting, supporting and developing small businesses, startups, ventures and innovative ideas aligned with the bioeconomy that have as their premise direct or indirect action for the preservation or sustainable use of the biome’s biodiversity resources. In total, R$23 million has already been invested in acceleration actions, scholarships, events, Sebraetec and international missions.
