The so-called Industry Coalition, a group that brings together representatives of 14 industrial sectors and held monthly or even fortnightly meetings with the former Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, in the Bolsonaro administration, met for the first time with the new Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad , this Friday (17). There was an expectation that the periodic meetings will be maintained during the PT government.

The group, formed by entities such as Abiplast, Abimaq, Aço Brasil, Eletros and Abrinq, took to the government an investment forecast of around R$ 459 billion for the sectors of the Coalition between 2023 and 2026. The projection covers R$ 120 billion for the industry food, R$ 75 billion in the machinery and equipment sector and R$ 64 in the plastic transformation industry among the highest volume forecasts.

At the meeting, the group also presented its agenda with priority themes such as the cost of Brazil, tax reform, resumption of economic growth, investments, exports and climate change, according to participants. Marco Polo de Mello Lopes, who coordinates the Coalition, assesses that Haddad expressed openness to dialogue.

In claims for foreign trade, they cited difficulties in financing exports and export credit insurance. Also raised by the group was the question of increasing the tax collection time, to make it compatible with the receipt of invoices, a topic that should be continued with the Federal Revenue Service.

“It is necessary to stop the R$ 23 billion that the productive sector pays in interest to the banks to take money to collect government taxes, due to the mismatch between the day of receipt of factory sales and the day of collecting each federal tax, estimating between 30 and 50 days”, says Synesio Batista, president of Abrinq.

“I left optimistic that the government will pay special attention to the industry, that the question of reindustrialization is for real and that they have very good intentions in the sense of making a competitiveness agenda”, says José Velloso, president of Abimaq.

“Establishing a schedule of discussions to unlock investments and increase the industry’s competitiveness was the agenda of the meeting with Minister Haddad and secretaries”, says Ricardo Roriz, president of Abiplast.
