The Ministry of Finance informed this Monday (27th) that the Income Tax exemption range will rise from the current R$ 1,903.98 to R$ 2,112.00. According to the Treasury, a simplified monthly deduction of R$ 528 will also be allowed, so that people who earn up to R$ 2,640 a month do not pay the tax.

Today a person with this monthly income collects R$ 55.20 in income tax per month. The new exemption band is expected to come into effect on May 1.

The exemption range of up to R$ 2,640, however, is only valid for those who make the declaration using the simplified model. For income taxpayers who opt for the full declaration (to be entitled to deductions on health and education expenses, for example), the portion of income accounted for as exempt will be R$ 2,112.

There will be no change in the limits of the other taxation bands.
