Entity will represent entrepreneurs and work to raise funds, promote and invest to strengthen startups in the region
The new managers of the Amazon Startups and Innovation Association (ASIAM) will take office this Thursday (9), for the 2023/2025 period. The event will take place at 2 pm in the Zany dos Reis auditorium in Manaus City Hall (CMM).
11 members will be sworn in, 5 executive directors and 6 administrative directors, who will be responsible for representing the sector before the public authorities and working for the growth of the local technological center.
According to the president-elect of ASIAM, Amaike Keric, after dedicating himself to the development of the startup where he has been operating since 2017, he realized that although there are initiatives that promote the entrepreneurial culture in the region, there was still a lack of a formal intermediary who could move between the bodies regulators, entrepreneurs and investors in order to discuss alternatives to improve the development of the ecosystem.
“As time went on, the gap remained. Startups did not have representation. Decisions about innovation and public policy were made without our input. And in 2022 we started to design a plan. We started to gather and write the project. During this same period, we began to participate in meetings at Suframa, the Government and the City Hall. That’s when we saw the possibility of creating a class representation would be very important. So, we gathered more startups and started talking and starting the association. Thus, ASIAM was born”, he said.
First investment partnerships
The Amazonas State Development Agency (AFEAM) launched last Friday (3) the +Inovação program, the first credit line intended for startups. The +Inovação program aims to encourage the development, improvement and production of new products, processes and services through financial investments for innovative companies, in order to contribute to economic growth and increased market competitiveness in the State of Amazonas.
Startups will be able to request up to R$ 21,000 in financing in the Simple Innovation Company category and up to R$ 150,000 in the Micro and Small Company category, with an interest rate of 6% per year to be paid in up to eight years.
ASIAM’s elected vice-president, Léo David, believes that Amazonas is at a favorable moment for the development of startups.
“We are seeing that there is willingness and openness to discuss public policy for the development of innovative, technology-based and scalable businesses, in which startups are the center of the debate and we are already seeing some actions being carried out”, he says.
Activities
In addition to focusing on fostering, accelerating and creating connections in the startup ecosystem in Amazonas and in the states that are part of the legal Amazon, ASIAM also plans to expand its field of action through meetups, workshops, events, festivals and training for entrepreneurs.
Startups interested in joining can, from the 9th of February, by filling out an online form, available on the association’s social networks, where technical information about the startup’s field of activity will be collected.
