After the dismissal of employees from the Sapiranga operation, which took place in early April, Paquetá informed the workers who remained employed at the Vale dos Sinos factory last Friday (7) that they would receive only 50% of their salary on the current payroll. The information is from the region’s Shoemakers’ Union, which echoed the issue on its own radio program, released on its social networks.
According to the entity’s general secretary, Leandro Rodrigues dos Santos, this was the first time in 77 years of activity that the company from Rio Grande do Sul had to take such an attitude: “It took us by surprise when the workers called us. So we moved there, because most of them crossed their arms, using their right”.
After a conversation with the affected professionals, a meeting was scheduled with the company’s board for this Monday afternoon (10) in order to reach an agreement. If the remainder of the amount is not paid, says Santos, employees will decide whether to stop or not.
In addition to the issue of these 90 dismissed in Sapiranga and the others in the Northeast, the category is also apprehensive about the issue of severance payments provided for by RJ, which until then had been duly complied with. “Throughout Brazil there are 500 workers, including the production line in Bahia and Ceará, the development of Sapiranga and the retailer. This is our concern, what will come tomorrow: if you don’t have the money today, will you have it tomorrow?”, asks the secretary general.
The crisis in the gaucho footwear sector also extends to Arezzo, in Campo Bom, which recently cut around 200 professionals. In the wake, the president of the Parobé Shoemakers Union, João Nadir Pires, reports losses for local suppliers. “On Monday afternoon (10), we will have a meeting with a small factory and an atelier that provided services for them”, laments the director.
