The toy industry is going to take advantage of the debate on the US$ 50 import tax on orders to alert the government about compliance with Inmetro rules, which is another worrying factor for the sector’s competitiveness.

According to Synesio Batista, from Abrinq (sector association), in addition to the collection advantage, it is necessary to increase the collection on part of the imported competitors that do not obey the same rules of technical quality and safety established by Inmetro for the toy manufactured in Brazil.

“We cannot accept the importation of a toy painted with toxic paint. The child could put it in his mouth and get sick. He has to test the product. The factory abroad that will sell through the platform needs to be accredited in Brazil and comply with the Brazilian rule “, says the president of Abrinq.

He claims that the concern has already been taken to the government and to Inmetro. “If we in the Brazilian industry have to test the products, the toys that come in from importers without paying taxes also need to be tested. The poorest children are more vulnerable to this risk. Brazil cannot make them suffer to please the Chinese importer “, says the president of Abrinq.
