Last Friday, police arrested Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis, accused of being the leader of the group involved in the rapper’s murder in 1967.
Among the great music celebrities who have been murdered is rapper Tupac Shakur, shot dead in 1996 by then-suspect Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis. However, the doubt of who the perpetrator of the crime really was came to an end last Friday, 29, 27 years after the artist’s death. The information is from the Exame website.
New never-before-seen photos and videos of the artist’s final moments have leaked onto the internet and show that Davis, now 60 years old, was actually the perpetrator of Tupac’s murder. The images show gang action in the fight between the rapper and Davis’ nephew, and the investigation also watched interviews in which the man discussed the crime.
Crime on the way to being solved after almost 30 years
Davis was detained by police in Nevada, in the United States, acting as the leader of the group, but not as the author of the shooting. He is the first person to be arrested among the four suspects in direct connection with the murder, as shown by data from the Associated Press.
When investigating Davis’ residence, the police found a series of photos and videos, which contain details of what the rapper’s BMW looked like after the shots and images of violence, with punches and kicks. The police found a Vibe magazine featuring Tupac, gun bullets, some photos and a copy of Davis’s memoir, called “Compton Street Legend” (2019), at his home. In this book, he admits to being in the car with the gunman who killed Tupac.
The jury in the case also voted to increase Davis’ sentence for gang activity. If he is convicted, he could face more than 20 years in prison. Davis is scheduled to appear in court later this week.
How was Tupac killed?
On September 7, 1967, Tupac reportedly went out with the founder of Death Row Records, Marion ‘Suge’ Knight, to watch a Mike Tyson fight in Las Vegas. When he left the ring, however, he became involved in a fight with Davis and his nephew — already the subject of previous disagreements. As they left the scene, in the rapper’s famous BMW, a car pulled up alongside Tupac and Knight and fired a series of shots. The rapper was hit several times and, a week later, he died in the hospital.
At the time, a week after the shooting, Davis’ nephew, Anderson, was arrested and soon released, without actually being charged with murder. A few months later, one of the members of the rap group Outlawz, who was in the car with Tupac, was murdered in the state of New Jersey, before giving his statement to the police.
Anderson then sued Shakur’s estate, alleging “physical injuries and severe emotional and mental distress.” In 1998, he was murdered in a city of Compton, California.
