iFood announces this week the expansion of its investment to scale the production of biodegradable packaging developed by growPack, a startup that has partnered with the delivery giant since 2019.
According to the company, the project begins with the manufacture of 500,000 units in the new phase and an investment of around R$ 500,000.
Trials for the production of lidded food carrier trays made from corn husks and other compostable materials began last year.
Of the 30,000 initial packages, around 18,000 were distributed to restaurants in Campinas (SP), which are working to gather information from consumers about the performance of the material in criteria such as assembly, appearance and temperature.
The idea now is to expand the manufacturer’s commercial actions and create new molds for other types of cooking.
