In an intimate way, from someone who really knows the legacy left by the Carioca writer Cecília Meireles (1901-1964), the theater critic, Ida Vicenzia, will be in Manaus to launch this Saturday (4th), the book entitled a tribute to the writer, Cecília Meireles, by the São Paulo publishing house Atma, from the Valer group. The event will be held at Livraria Nacional, located at Rua 24 de Maio, 415, downtown, at 10 am.

With the “blessing” of Cecília’s grandchildren, Ida, like her muse, is a journalist. Doctor in Literature, she dedicates more than 350 pages to celebrating the thousand and one faces of the author, owner of an intense and visceral poetry, without a doubt, one of the greatest writers of Brazilian literature.

But not only did poetry live, Cecília Meireles. Long before becoming the great feminine reference in the literature produced in Brazil, she was an above average child, very studious. Ida tells in this book that, at the age of 9, Cecília was awarded a gold medal when she finished her studies with honors, and received the honor from the poet Olavo Bilac, the school’s inspector. At the age of 18, she debuted in literature with the book Espectros, and her best-known work to date is O romanceiro da Inconfidência, from 1953.

Still according to Ida, the poet was also a teacher, and one of those engaged in free and accessible education for all. Ahead of her time, in the 1930s, she was already fighting for the student / citizen, for the young participant and aware of their rights and duties in the battle for citizenship.

Cecília, with her sensitivity, passed through journalism, chronicles, essays, visual arts and children’s literature. In this book written by Ida, this is inscribed in its structure, divided into two parts, distributed in 11 chapters, called: The blossoming of the woman; The teacher; The journalist; Travel time; The plastic artist; The chronicler; and we arrive at ironic-symbolism Cecília Meireles playwright; The revolution by light; Cecília Meireles and children’s theater; The poet, and, finally, Death.

In each of these chapters, Ida traces details of her life and work, frequent themes in Cecília’s literary production, such as identity, loneliness, the passage of time, the ephemerality of life, isolation, abandonment and loss. The words written by the poet have been enchanting generations and, even if many critics want to place her in the second generation of Modernism, she is the point outside the curve and will always be “in the current of life”.
