For yet another day, the market’s attention remains focused on the renegotiation of the US debt ceiling. Yesterday, Biden and McCarthy met to talk about their parties’ priorities within this renegotiation, but they still haven’t reached an agreement. The leader of the House, however, said that the meeting was “productive” and discarded the chances that the country defaults. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen points out that if the parties do not reach an agreement soon, the United States will have no money to cover its bills from June 1st. Specialists, however, consider that, despite the political fights, a default is not interesting for either side. While Biden’s Democrats are more in favor of charging more taxes to the richest, McCarthy’s Republicans are against spending on social benefits. In Brazil, the day has an empty economic agenda and the highlight is still the new fiscal framework. “The expectation remains around the new fiscal framework.
