‘I returned embarrassment to whoever created it’

Target of religious intolerance in “Big Brother Brasil 23”, Fred Nicácio insists on stressing that the lines of confinement colleagues in that episode were racist. And it wasn’t just a matter to stay in the game, as the cowboy Gustavo and Cristian asked. It’s a crime, as I said in “Domingão com Huck”, last week.
— It was uncomfortable (the reunion with the colleagues in the Sunday program), also because what they did is called religious racism. It’s a crime. And I thought it was important to emphasize this, because it enters into what I understand as my mission in participating in the reality show. I suffered racism explicitly. And by addressing this in prime time, this afternoon, I made this episode a public utility. Speeches like theirs annihilate a lot of people – recalls Fred.
But since it is a crime, does the doctor intend to pursue the matter further and press charges?
– I don’t know. It’s still early, there’s a lot to digest. The most important thing, and this is what I say to other black people, is to return the embarrassment to whoever created it. When I say “Domingão” with all the words that it was not a game, but racism, there was a pedagogical embarrassment. Nobody deserves to go through this, and I don’t want to romanticize it, but I’m glad it happened to me, that I’m prepared to deal with it.
