‘I need to motivate organ donation’

Faustão gave his first interview after the heart transplant, the exclusive one is with Lucas Pasin, from the UOL website, the conversation took place by telephone this Thursday morning (31). The presenter’s surgery was a success according to doctors.

In a note from the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein states that “the heart function is normalized and stable and, today, the drain and some catheters were removed, in addition to the patient having started physiotherapy.”

Fausto was asked what he thought when he woke up after the surgery, the presenter says: “My first thought was: I need to motivate organ donation. Brazil has to be the first place in the world. There must be more projects. We need to do something to improve this, and think about the next ones. We need to use faith in bestowal. If I didn’t have faith, I wouldn’t be alive.”

The 73-year-old presenter made an appeal about organ donation and praises SUS and cites misinformation about how priority was given in the transplant queue.

“I feel like my heart is beating even faster, it’s a unique feeling. They had to take a lot of rubble out of me, and put a new heart, a 35 year old boy. It’s something that makes me feel very alive (…) My first thought was: I need to motivate organ donation. Brazil has to be the first place in the world. There must be more projects. We need to do something to improve this, and think about the next ones”. Fausto Silva also praised the SUS and spoke about the importance of the system: “Yesterday it seemed like I was having a normal day in my life. I sat, walked, talked. It’s absurd to be able to do all that. I just have to thank my doctors and SUS. All this is also thanks to the SUS”.

The presenter is now able to breathe without the help of devices, in addition to being able to talk normally and has good heart function, the drain and some catheters were removed, in addition to the patient having started physiotherapy.
