Homage to Chet Baker at the Ling Institute

Musician Ramiro Levy returns to Instituto Ling (Rua João Caetano, 440) this Friday, at 8 pm, for the first performance of the international tour of his second solo EP, entitled Khaled Levy sings Chet Baker Vol 2. in Italy he comes straight from Europe to show the new work, which has guitar and voice as the guiding threads, in addition to synthesizer and percussion sounds, uniting bossa nova with a more contemporary production. Tickets cost R$50.00, with half-price options, and can be purchased on the website or at the reception of the cultural center.

In the project, Levy assumes the pseudonym Khaled, which emerged early in his life due to his father’s Egyptian origin, to revisit the work of American trumpeter and singer Chet Baker, one of the greatest names in jazz of all time. The album continues the project started in 2019, with the first volume in honor of the legendary musician.

In the new EP, Levy adopted a different method of recording in relation to his first album: the research of electric guitar sounds gave way to the guitar. The voice was recorded in the tranquility of his studio, in the search for the distance between the one who sings and the one who listens. These elements helped to accentuate the project’s intimacy, the central point of Chet Baker’s poetics, through Levy’s vision. Once the guitar and voice were recorded, the musician entered the studio with the idea of ​​researching synthesizer and percussion sounds, accompanied by Marco Olivi, who helped him finish the job.

Ramiro was born in the Capital in 1985 and lived in the State until he was 19, when he dropped out of his Psychology course to travel around Europe. In Barcelona, ​​he created, together with Daniel Plentz and Eduardo Stein, Selton, a Milanese band adopted, but with a tropicalist soul. While the group’s career developed in Italy, Khaled obtained a diploma in jazz singing at the Scuola Civica Jazz di Milano.
