Heineken opens floating bar on the Pinheiros River – 10/01/2023 – Copo Cheio

Space with modern architecture, drinks signed by a renowned bartender and guest DJs that give the atmosphere a party atmosphere. The new bar in the capital of São Paulo would be similar to many others if it weren’t for a unique feature: it floats on the Pinheiros River.

An initiative by the Heineken brewery, the Floating Bar is a seasonal project and will only be open until October 29th, between Friday and Sunday. To gain access, you must make a reservation via the website heinekenfloatingbar.com.br —reservations begin on Wednesdays of each week and fill up quickly. The bar has a capacity of one hundred people, with a rotating audience of 200. In addition to the floating platform, there is another smaller space with bathrooms on the bank.

And this short schedule can be even shorter: on days with unfavorable weather conditions, the bar is not open. This Sunday (1st), for example, rain in the region meant that the space remained closed. Date reservations were automatically transferred to the following Sunday (8).

In front of the Cidade Jardim shopping mall, the space’s green lighting (the brand’s traditional color) is sometimes even more prominent on days when pollution turns the surroundings gray. The entrance is through the Bruno Covas linear park and a walkway takes the visitor to the floating platform, which is part of Heineken’s “Green Your City” movement — something like “make your city greener”, in free translation. In fact, the brand has been one of the park’s sponsors since 2021.

“The ESG agenda is at the center of our business strategy and present in all stages of decision-making”, comments Mauro Homem, vice-president of sustainability at Heineken, also highlighting the importance of the area surrounding the Pinheiros River for the city.

The Floating Bar is completely open, with a wide view in both directions of the river, so even on warm spring nights, it’s a good idea to bring a light blouse or windbreaker jacket.

It’s from the counter, right in the center of the platform, that long necks, Heineken draft beer (R$ 15) and five signature drinks from the prestigious bartender Ale D’Agostino come out, such as Apple Hops, with gin, green apple syrup, juice lemon, sugar and the brand’s beer (for R$35); or the Dutch Julep, with bourbon, lemon juice, mint, sugar and beer (R$38) — yes, all drinks are complemented with beer.

The lean menu also includes foods such as coxinha with shiitake (R$ 36, with six pieces); or the vegetarian burrata with pistachio pesto sauce (R$ 67). The bar is non-profit and all profits will be donated to actions to improve the Pinheiros river, in a partnership with the SOS Mata Atlântica foundation.

“Contributing to the construction of a greener and more sustainable city is an urgent demand from society and our purpose as a brand is to take an unprecedented look at ways of discussing environmental impact and, through experiences and interventions, invite reflection and the occupation of urban spaces”, says Eduardo Picarelli, director of the Heineken business unit in Brazil.

This isn’t Heineken’s first seasonal bar in São Paulo this year. In April, the brand took Icebox to Vila Madalena, inspired by the universe of the game Valorant.
