Health demands CFM actions against anti-vaccine doctors – 03/30/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The Ministry of Health demanded from the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) explanations about what measures the municipality has been taking to reprimand professionals who spread false information against vaccines available in the country.

In a letter signed by the Deputy Secretary for Health and Environment Surveillance, Mauro Niskier Sanchez, the agency states that the disinformation spread by workers in all areas has brought harm to the population.

“In recent years, the anti-vaccine movement, considered by the WHO [Organização Mundial da Saúde] among the top ten threats to global health, has gained greater visibility and has been spreading false information to the general population and health professionals”, says the document, dated last Tuesday (28).

The folder tells the council that it is launching the National Movement for Vaccination, whose objective is to make the country once again become a world reference in immunization, and that vaccination practices “have allowed to avoid millions of deaths and disabilities throughout history” .

“It is known that the vaccine is considered by the World Health Organization to be one of the public health interventions with the greatest impact in preventing death and disease worldwide. There is no other procedure that produces such excellent results in reducing morbidity and mortality from diseases immunopreventable”, he points out.

“In this sense, bearing in mind that misinformation has been propagated by professionals in all areas and that hesitation in vaccines has brought harm to the population, this Secretariat for Health and Environmental Surveillance requires information on what measures are taken by this council against professionals who spread untrue information against the vaccines available in the country”, he concludes.

When contacted by the column to comment on the letter, the CFM did not respond until the publication of this text.

During the Covid-19 health crisis, the municipality aligned itself with then-president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and consented to the possibility of doctors prescribing drugs that were not effective against the disease.

Even initiatives by WHO and other international institutions to stop studies with chloroquine did not lead the entity to draw up a new opinion on the subject.
