‘He changed my life’

At the age of 33, Pedro Lamin says that Maruan from “Mar do sertão”, his most successful character, completely revolutionized his life. Born in the interior of Minas Gerais and raised in Petrópolis (RJ), he played football professionally until he was 21, before becoming an actor at 22. plot with Labibe (Theresa Fonseca), Pedro returned to training — and has lost ten kilos since November —, returned to therapy and started to take better care of his diet. What is the importance of this work in “Mar do sertão” for you?

The other works I did changed my career, but Maruan was the character that most changed my life. The couple Maruan and Labibe was embraced by the public. I’m living a dream. I live in Copacabana. I go out to the supermarket and the ladies love me. Not to mention that the character revolutionized my way of thinking about love. In the general sense. He brought me closer to my spirituality, I was closer to my parents.

What else did Maruan bring you?

I had a lot of crisis alone thinking I wouldn’t be able to play this prince. I’m different from Maruan. It was a struggle to get to that energy of his. I learned to take care of myself, to think about what I eat and drink, to sleep early. Jojo Todynho said the other day that he diets on the strength of hate. I identified myself (laughs). If I didn’t have that balance in life, I wouldn’t make it. I went back to training in November, four to five days a week, and lost ten kilos (the 1.90m actor is now 93kg) for energy. To gain mass, I still play three naked games a week. I also went back to therapy and I feel lighter.

Is single? Do you get sung a lot for playing a prince in the soap opera?

I’m single. I avoid getting too much into messages on networks, but I don’t get sung a lot. Maruan is not a seducer. I’ve dated a lot in my life. I can say that now I’m dating myself (laughs).

Was it difficult to stop playing football to pursue an acting career?

I started playing football when I was 5 years old and I played for Serrano when I was 21. But there came a time when I saw that it wasn’t for me anymore. I never dreamed of being an actor. Until I was in my early 20s, I had only seen six films at the cinema and had only been to the theater once. When I came to Rio, I shared an apartment with an actor friend. I would text him, which encouraged me.

How has fame affected your life?

Fame turns people off, you know? I feel more alone these days than before. I do not know how to explain. I have preferred going out to more daytime events because of work. Making soap operas is exhausting, but I want to establish myself as an actor in this format.
