The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, said this Wednesday (17) that recent decisions by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) and the National Congress could prevent losses of R$ 150 billion to the Brazilian State. In a joint meeting of the Economic Development commissions; Finance and Taxation; Financial Inspection and Control, he mentioned the recent court decision on tax incentives given by states to companies, which could generate R$ 90 billion in taxes owed in the last five years. He also cited the provisional measure that changes the tax collection rules of companies that transfer goods to partner companies abroad – approved by the Senate. According to Haddad, this MP can prevent “tax evasion”, a loss of resources, of around R$ 70 billion per year. “Transfer prices and funding subsidy, decisions of this House and the STJ, we are talking about a loss of collection, tax expenditure, of the order of R$ 150 billion. It has nothing to do with an increase in the tax burden. It is the role of the The Brazilian State defends itself against people who find loopholes in the legislation. This is not an increase in the burden”, declared the minister.
