Haddad and Marinho please company and app worker – 01/20/2023 – Panel SA

In the debate on the regulation of work by application, the Lula government ended the week with nods from both sides, both companies and workers.
The meeting between Minister Fernando Haddad (Finance) and the CEO of Uber, Dara Khosrowshahi, in Davos, pleased the sector, according to Amobitec (an association that brings together companies such as Ifood, 99, Lalamove and Uber). At the meeting, Haddad reinforced the Brazilian government’s desire to regularize the situation of app drivers, especially social security.
Amobitec’s proposal is to include drivers and couriers in Social Security. “There are about 1.4 million people who generate income with work intermediated by platforms and, the majority of which, according to recent surveys, are not covered by the current modalities of access to Social Security”, says André Porto, executive director of the entity.
Meanwhile, in Brasilia, the Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho, met with workers’ representatives, who say they see in the new government a disposition for dialogue, which had closed doors for many years.
“For six years we have been trying to dialogue with other governments but we have not been received. The correct posture is to listen to everyone, not just companies. This government makes a nod that fills us with optimism. Those who fight for labor rights are not against technological advances”, says Gil Almeida, president of Sindimoto-SP.
According to him, the social security issue is one of the problems to be solved, but it does not exhaust the worker’s demands.
“The flagship is not security. The priority is the salary adjustment. We own the motorcycle, the cell phone, pay for the internet, IPVA, maintenance and fuel, which went up. But our remuneration for companies has been parked for seven years, and the algorithms drive service prices down. Security alone will not solve the problem”, says Almeida.
