European Union suspects luxury goods giant of violating trade rules. Illuminated Gucci sign is seen at the brand’s store in Paris, France. Sarah Meyssonier / Reuters Italian tax police have inspected the premises of luxury goods company Gucci in Milan, a source with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters on Wednesday (19). The inspection took place as part of a European Union (EU) investigation into possible violations of rules on business practices. Furthermore, the expertise was carried out by the Guardia di Finanza, in cooperation with European Commission agents and at a site in the Italian financial capital linked to the manufacture of travel goods, handbags and other leather goods, the source told Reuters. Gucci is part of the French luxury goods group Kering. Gucci and Kering declined to comment. Last Tuesday (18), the European Commission, which acts as a regulator of competition in the 27 countries of the EU, said that antitrust regulators had invaded companies in the fashion sector in several countries in the region, but without naming the companies or the countries. In addition, the supervisory body also reported that the latest action was not related to other crashes in the fashion industry that took place in the last two years. The Commission also sent requests for information to companies in the same sector. Sought by Reuters on Wednesday, the body declined to comment. Companies found guilty of violating EU rules face fines of up to 10% of their global turnover.
