Growth of the CNG supply network in Amazonas is encouraged by Cigás

Now, there are six supply points and two more will start working soon

Manaus (AM) – The State Government, through Companhia de Gás do Amazonas (Cigás), is working to expand the supply network of vehicular natural gas (CNG). Another new station started operating with the fuel, recently, expanding the CNG supply points in Manaus to six.

“This action is part of the State Executive’s strategy to guarantee better conditions for drivers who use vehicular natural gas, at a lower cost compared to other fuels, thus contributing to fostering the natural gas chain in Amazonas”,

says the CEO of Cigás, René Levy Aguiar, emphasizing that the Company has been acting in line with what was established by the State Government in the Plan of Guidelines and Strategies for the Sustainable Economic Development of Amazonas.

Located on Avenida Mário Ypiranga (Central-South Zone of Manaus), the station has the capacity to serve around a thousand vehicles per day, located at a point that allows the interconnection of drivers to different areas of the city.

Later this year, Companhia de Gás do Amazonas will start supplying CNG to two other gas stations, which are in the process of preparing their internal infrastructure. However, they are already interconnected to the natural gas distribution network (RDGN), which currently operates with a length of 252 kilometers. One of them will operate on Avenida Cosme Ferreira, in the Coroado neighborhood (East Zone). The other is located on Avenida Noel Nutels, Cidade Nova neighborhood (North Zone).

The Company’s technical-commercial director, Clovis Correia Junior, explains that Cigás fulfills its role of prospecting entrepreneurs interested in investing in new CNG filling stations. He also points out that a favorable demand is needed and, as a result, the Company has promoted campaigns to encourage the conversion of vehicles to increase the fleet of cars adapted to the use of CNG.

Advantages of CNG

Since its implementation in Amazonas, vehicular natural gas has been a more economical alternative compared to liquid fuels (gasoline and ethanol). A Cigás study based on the analysis of the price and yield variables, based on a survey by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), referring to the period from June 18 to 24, indicates that drivers from Amazonas who use CNG they save 46% compared to gasoline and 49% compared to ethanol.

Another aspect that must be considered is the environmental one, since natural gas is the least polluting fossil fuel. CNG also extends the useful life of the vehicle because it does not burn oil and does not produce impurities in the engine.

Added to this is the issue of greater autonomy, which means that cars can move further, consuming less vehicle natural gas. In this sense, using a cubic meter of CNG, the driver can travel up to 11 kilometers with his vehicle, while with a liter of gasoline, he travels ten kilometers and with a liter of ethanol, he travels seven kilometers.
